POSITION PURPOSE
To provide behavioral interventions in the school settings and use ABA interventions to teach communication, social, and daily living skills and reduce problematic behaviors.
POSITION ANALYSIS
The Behavioral Technician will provide clinical skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to children with Autism and related developmental disabilities in the school setting. The Behavioral Technician will collect data on programs, assist with parent training, and assist the Behavior Analyst, Behavior Coordinator, and School Psychologist with clinical assessments as needed. Essential components of this position are listed below but subject to change at the discretion of the EC Director. This person will be required to perform other duties as assigned by the EC Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols
- Ability to collect, follow, record, and summarize data for behavior training protocols
- Ability to communicate effectively, present information, and conduct professional developments with school staff and/or parents and the community
- Ability to accept constructive feedback and develop knowledge and skill sets accordingly
- Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with students, co-workers, supervisors, and community members
- Commitment to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and HIPPA laws
- Commitment to ongoing training and development as it relates to clinical skills, professional development, ethics, and technology, and training in order to perform job responsibilities to required standard
- Ability to interpret and implement clinical protocols and written
- Must maintain a professional appearance with regard to clothing, grooming, hair, and make-up

- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of school procedures, ABA practices, and behavioral interventions
- Considerable knowledge of computers, various operating systems, SQL and HTML, as well as word processing software, spreadsheets, and databases
- Ability to exercise judgment independently in selecting and implementing procedures and analyzing data
- Skills related to organized and engaged meeting management
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with district staff
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly-changing team environment
EDUCATION,TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s degree
- Completion of a BACB approved RBT course and successfully passed the RBT certification exam
- Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to
the State of NC requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols
- Provide direct student services in 1:1 and/or in group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements as outlined in the student’s behavior intervention plan
- Collect, record, and summarize data
- Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress as instructed by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst
- Utilize safe & appropriate procedures when working with students
- Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to FERPA and HIPPA laws
- Assist Behavior Coordinator and Behavior Analysts with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments
- Assist Behavior Coordinator and Behavior Analysts in preparing client materials as instructed
- Conduct professional development with school staff and/or parents and the community
- Adhere to Board policies and procedures and abide by code of ethics as indicated by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board
WORKING CONDITIONS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to lift and carry students with adaptive equipment
- Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time
- Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time
- Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan in the course of working with children with challenging behavior
- Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection
- Must be physically present at the assigned job location
- Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication
- Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to work in office and public school environments and come into direct contact with staff and students
- Travel is required to schools and Central Services offices
