POSITION PURPOSE

To work closely with ML Coordinator, ML Team and content teachers to offer in-person support that facilitates English language acquisition.  May offer additional assistance with content assignments as needed for student success.

             

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

?     North Carolina ESL Teaching Licensure

?     Deep knowledge of ESL instructional strategies

?     Excellent oral and written communication skills

?     Ability to speak, read and write clearly and concisely in English

?     Ability to establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with building and district staff

?     Ability to utilize North Carolina State Essential Standards in addition to the WIDA ELD standards to implement effective small group or one-on-one instruction

?     Excellent interpersonal skills (communication, problem-solving, conflict management)

?     Strong analytical and organizational skills

?     Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy

?     Preferred but not required: ability to speak, read, and write clearly and concisely in Spanish (the specified second language of the children/families being served)

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

?     Minimum:  Bachelor’s degree and ESL Teaching Licensure

?     Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

?        Bachelor's Degree

?        North Carolina ESL Teaching Licensure

?        Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

?        Plan and deliver effective, in-person, content-based instruction for English Learners combining WIDA Standards with grade level content (in small groups, individual, or co-teaching setting)

?        Plan and deliver in-person explicit language instruction to expedite the acquisition of the English language in the domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing  (in small groups, individual, or co-teaching setting)

?        Meet with all stakeholders to ensure understanding of the ML Student Plan and implementation of Classroom Modifications and Testing Accommodations

?        Collaborate with content teachers to co-plan and co-deliver appropriate instruction as needed

?        Collaborate with content teachers to assist with modification of assignments and assessments as needed

?        Effectively implement language development lessons that enhance core ESL instruction

?        Analyze ML and classroom data to make informed decisions regarding instruction

?        Maintain accurate documentation of services delivered to students

?        Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with all stakeholders (including families)

?        Assist in developing students' cognitive capacity, increasing academic skill development, and respect for learning; foster students' self-esteem and motivation through positive interaction

?        Observe and respond to student needs, emergencies, and/or conflicts that may occur

?        Maintain confidential information about children, families, and staff

?        Exhibit a positive attitude in work and interaction with staff, ML team and students

?        Always treat students with kindness and respect; set a positive example for the students in the ML program

?        Exhibit and practice courtesy, respect, and professional judgment in dealings with all students, parents, supervisors, colleagues, school administration, staff, ML team, etc.

?        Maintain open lines of communication with other program staff, school staff, and parents/guardians

?        Participate in monthly ML Professional Learning Community and necessary WIDA/State test trainings

?        Administer Language Proficiency  Testing as required throughout the year (W-APT, WIDA Screener, ACCESS)

?   Must be able to work in office and public school environments and come into direct contact with staff and students
