WORK HOURS 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM; occasional evenings and weekends

POSITION PURPOSE Maintain all cafeteria equipment throughout the district


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

Works with the Maintenance Department, School Nutrition Administration, and School Nutrition staff to ensure that the kitchen equipment is maintained in good operating order


Follows operational procedures for efficient and effective maintenance repairs on all applicable kitchen equipment which includes the following:

  • Refrigeration (reach-in/walk-in coolers/freezers, milk boxes, merchandisers, hot/ cold wells)
  • Convection ovens/combi ovens
  • Steamers 
  • Warmers
  • Serving lines
  • Tables
  • Kettles
  • Dish machines
  • Lighting, carts etc

 EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • 3-5 years of experience maintaining commercial kitchen and refrigeration equipment preferred but not required
  • Supplemental vocational training in food service equipment maintenance, repair, electrical, plumbing, refridgeration or related field

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS


Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC
requirements


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends)


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s Degree in refrigeration preferred but not required
  • 3-5 years of experience maintaining commercial kitchen and refrigeration equipment preferred but not required


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preform comprehensive diagnose and repair of all Pender County Schools cafeteria equipment. Install new food service and refrigeration equipment and systems when required
  • Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring
  • Fabricate, assemble and install electrical wiring, controls, piping, etc. according to specifications and code
  • Troubleshoot and repair coolers, freezers, milk boxes, ice machines and other refrigerant equipment
  • Maintain all kitchen equipment, mechanical equipment, or the structure of the kitchens in good operating order
  • Work with Freon per code to charge or evacuate equipment, store or transport
  • Work with Director of Maintenance, Cafeteria Managers, Principals, Contractors, etc
  • Implement a preventative maintenance schedule for cafeteria equipment and follow
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed
  • Be able to work independently on daily tasks
  • Must perform safety job site analysis before starting each task to ensure all hazards are identified and eliminated or controlled while task is being performed
  • Ensure equipment is inspected before use
  • Follow safety procedures and techniques to perform all job duties, including but not limited to lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Follows operational procedures for efficient and effective preventative maintenance on all applicable kitchen equipment


WORKING CONDITIONS

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and machinery including refrigeration, electrical tools, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, pipe threading, various hand tools, etc. Must be physically able to operate motor vehicles including, vans, trucks, dump trucks, etc. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force or greater occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Required the ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, scaffolding and/or in tight spaces
  • Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors include but are not limited to: Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, heavy lifting, and carrying

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work in uncomfortable positions, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Must be able to work in office and public-school environments, and come into direct contact with staff and students
  • Daily district wide travel. On call as needed.
