WORK WEEK SCHEDULE Monday - Friday

 

WORK HOURS 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM; occasional evenings and weekends              MONTHS/YR 12


POSITION PURPOSE Lead and direct the energy management program, HVAC program,

and indoor air quality program. Supervise and evaluate all HVAC staff members.

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with campus and multi-building complexes.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practice of mechanical, refrigeration, and BAS control systems to efficiently operate and maintain such systems.
  • Knowledge of building, fire, and life safety codes, OSHA regulations, and other groups’ standards relating to HVAC and refrigeration.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish working relationships with all school personnel, public officials, and contract vendors.
  • Ability to develop and administer construction contracts and other service agreements.
  • Knowledge of project management principles to ensure timely and successful job completion of projects.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Energy Management, Indoor Air Quality industry standards, HVAC and refrigeration.
  • High School Diploma required 

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.
  • All relevant certifications and licenses related to energy management and HVAC/Refrigeration maintenance and replacement processes.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends) as needed.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements an effective and sustainable energy management program for the district.
  • Utilizes building automated controls software for energy scheduling and coordinates the installation and maintenance with service vendors.
  • Analyses HVAC systems and recommends replacement, energy efficient upgrades, or preventive maintenance programming.
  • Informs staff of latest technological advances and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Implements professional development for staff and trains staff in the proper use of tools and work procedures.
  • Coordinates and supervises the maintenance efforts in all school facilities via a combination of in-house technicians and outside sources to repair or replace heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and assure that work is carried out according to plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Recommends, coordinates, and oversees HVAC repair and replacement projects; develops requests for proposals, obtains bids, tracks and reviews completed work for acceptability.
  • Coordinates with the NCDPI Facilities and Operations when major equipment replacements alter as-built designs.
  • Maintains recordkeeping, work orders, inventory, and department budgets.
  • Works with the Child Nutrition department for repairs and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Reviews plans and specifications for new construction to determine compatibility with existing equipment or acceptability of design.
  • Ensures efficient operation of departments and recommends persons to be hired and disciplined.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement, supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer-driven, and valuing diversity.
  • Recommend the hiring and discipline of those assigned to the HVAC/Refrigeration team.
  • Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers and copiers.
  • Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Due to the amount of time spent working on the computer, standing and walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for light work.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Must be able to work in office and public-school environments, and come into direct contact with staff and students.
  • Travel is required to schools and Central Services offices.
