REPORTS TO Director of ESL/Migrant Programs; MEP Coordinator


WORK WEEK SCHEDULE  Monday - Friday, with some evenings and weekends

 

WORK HOURS  Part-time up to 27 hours MONTHS/YR 10


POSITION PURPOSE To perform recruitment duties as required by the Migrant Education Program.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to speak, read, and write clearly and concisely in English and Spanish (the
specified second language of the children/families being served)
Strong computer skills, including word processing, data input, translation software,
e-mail, and spreadsheets
Outstanding interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict
management, collaboration) to collaborate with schools, agencies, and local
agricultural employers to recruit and serve eligible children
Valid NC driver’s license and current auto insurance with minimum liability coverage
Ability to work independently, take direction, and demonstrate flexibility in work
assignments
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, and weekends
Excellent organizational skills to maximize time and efforts in identifying and serving
migrant children
Adept with office procedures necessary to document and follow federal, state, and
local MEP procedures
Travel throughout the assigned area in order to fulfill job duties. Use a county vehicle
for travel when possible. Create service schedules that minimize mileage expenses as
much as possible. Keep records of mileage traveled for reimbursement.
Maintain schedule and paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.
Maintain confidentiality of students, families, and program.
Attend meetings and training sessions as feasible
Communicate regularly with the supervisor. Meet monthly with other migrant staff.
Establish, maintain, and enhance effective communication with all stakeholders.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree and other combinations of applicable education, training, and
experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform
effectively in the position. Previous experience in data entry is preferred.

 

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

 

Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the
State of NC requirements

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Recruitment Job Duties
Understand all federal and state regulations pertaining to the identification and recruitment of

migrant children.
Attend MEP training sessions sponsored by the state program.
Follow all procedures and practices contained in the Plan for Identification and Recruitment

and in any other directives issued by the State Migrant Education Office.
Maintain accurate documentation of services provided.
Establish contacts and regular visits with agencies, businesses, and sites that serve migrant

families for the purpose of having them help by referring potential eligible families.
Collaborate with local agencies and businesses to provide services to our migrant families.
Visit homes, work sites, or other locations to interview parents, guardians, or students to

determine child eligibility for MEP.
Record eligibility information for each eligible child on a Certificate of Eligibility (COE).
Complete out-of-school youth (OSY) language screener and SOSY survey for all OSY.
Provide services to out-of-school youth (OSY).
Assist parents by providing information on supplementary programs provided by the school

district and by the Migrant Education Program.
Travel throughout the assigned area in order to fulfill job duties. Use a county vehicle for travel

when possible.

WORKING CONDITIONS WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Must be able to work in office and public school environments and come into direct
contact with staff and students
Travel is required to schools and Central Services offices as well as home visits.
